Curriculum Vitae

Bettina Geisseler studied law at the universities of Freiburg i.Br.,Tübingen and Geneva. She was a research assistant to Prof. Schlechtriem at the Institute for foreign and international private law of the university of Freiburg i.Br. while working as articled clerk. 

She spent many years as inhouse counsel and later on as Head of Legal in international companies operating in the field of civil engineering and the construction and erection of power plants.  

Bettina Geisseler negotiated contracts for power plants and other major infrastructure projects worldwide on behalf of the companies Losinger Switzerland  (nowadays Bouygues, France), ABB Switzerland as well as Babcock Borsig Service & Essener Hochdruck-Rohrleitungsbau (both companies nowadays Bilfinger SE). 

She advised the Managing Director of Transportation of the Swiss Railways SBB on SBB’s strategy for transnational cooperation and especially regarding the incorporation of the Cargo Joint Venture SBB – Ferrovie del Stato FS (Italy).

As a lawyer, Bettina Geisseler mainly advises German and international suppliers as well as owners/ operators in all legal questions concerning the construction and erection respectively the rehabilitation/ maintenance or the acquisition of power generating or power transmission plants or other infrastructure projects worldwide. The power plants are either conventional power plants or “renewable energy” plants such as wind farms on- and offshore or hydro power plants.

In addition GEISSELER LAW advises medium sized companies and major groups in the mechanical and electrical engineering sector as well as in other industry sectors in all legal questions with a focus on contract law, e.g. supply and distribution contracts. 

 

Bettina Geisseler is a member of the Société Hydrotechnique de France, Paris, the Deutsches TalsperrenKomitee (DTK), Dresden, the Office franco – allemand pour les énergies rénouvelables, Berlin/ Paris, the Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. and the VGB PowerTech e.V., Essen. She represents the DTK as (nominated) member in the Technical Committee I “Public Safety Around Dams” of ICOLD (International Commission on Large Dams).

She is an active member of the ICC Task Force on Consortium / Joint Venture Model Contract (ICC Paris) and the working group III of the German – Turkish Energy Forum (moderated by the VGB PowerTech).

Bettina Geisseler gives regularly lectures at the TU Dresden and the Università di Corsica Pasquale Paoli, France. Additionally she holds seminars and gives lectures on legal issues regarding the erection and maintenance of power and other plants for the Haus der Technik, Essen, and the VDI Wissensforum, Düsseldorf , at international conferences (such as HYDRO 2016 or HYDRO Africa 2017) and at the EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne).
